Privacy Policy

CatShot is an iPhone app for two people, a couple or best friends. One of you asks for a Catshot and the other has 15 seconds to send a fresh screenshot. This policy explains what information CatShot collects, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. CatShot is operated by GOLDEN GENIUS LTD (“we”, “us”).

1. What we collect

Your account

Your connection

Catshots and requests

Photos access

CatShot asks for full access to your photo library for one reason: to find the screenshot you take during a request. It only looks at screenshots taken during that request and only uploads the one that is sent. Other photos never leave your iPhone.

With Send as soon as I take it turned on (it is on by default), a screenshot you take while a request is open is sent to your person right away. Turn it off in Settings to tap Send yourself each time.

Notifications and Live Activities

To deliver requests to the right iPhone we store push tokens, the device type, iOS version, app version and an app-specific device identifier.

Subscription

Payments are made through Apple. We never see your card details. We receive your subscription status (plan, trial, renewal and expiry dates) through RevenueCat, so one plan can cover both of you.

Usage and diagnostics

We record how the app is used, for example screens viewed, requests sent and errors, together with the device model, iOS and app version and an approximate location (country or city) worked out from your IP address. This helps us fix problems and improve CatShot.

Ad measurement

When CatShot is installed from one of our ads, AppsFlyer tells us which ad it came from. It uses the app-specific device identifier, IP address, device and iOS details, the install, and subscription events that RevenueCat sends to it, linked to your account ID. AppsFlyer may share these events with the ad networks we advertise on, such as Meta, so they can measure our campaigns. Apple's privacy-preserving ad reports (SKAdNetwork) are also used.

When you set up CatShot, iOS asks you once whether CatShot may track you. Only if you tap Allow do AppsFlyer and RevenueCat also receive your iPhone's advertising identifier, which lets the ad networks link your install to the ad you saw in their apps or on their websites. If you tap Ask App Not to Track, the advertising identifier is never collected. You can change your answer at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Your screenshots are never used for any of this.

2. How we use it

If you are in the UK or the EU, we rely on these legal bases: performing our contract with you (running the app and the subscription), our legitimate interests (safety, improving the app, measuring ads) and your consent where iOS asks for it (Photos, notifications and tracking). You can withdraw consent at any time in the iOS Settings app.

3. Who can see your information

Your person sees your first name, your avatar, the Catshots and reactions you send, your shared streak and whether you have paused CatShot. They are never told why you paused, unpaired or blocked them.

4. How long we keep it

5. Your choices

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Email hello@catshot.me and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office. If you live in California, you have similar rights to know about and delete your information. We do not sell your personal information.

7. Where your information is stored

Your information is stored on Google Cloud servers in the United States, and our providers may process it in other countries. When information leaves the UK or the EU, it is protected by safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses approved for these transfers.

8. Security

Information is encrypted in transit, and screenshots are stored encrypted on Google's servers, where only the two of you can reach them through the app. Catshots are not end-to-end encrypted. No service can be perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit who can access it.

9. Children

CatShot is only for adults 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete accounts when we learn they belong to someone younger.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For important changes we will also tell you in the app.
